Faith
Ringgold is an artist, author and activist born in New York City. Faith is
mostly known for her beautiful story quilts and for her activism in the artist
community. Faith grew up in New York City during the Great Depression in the
1930s and went on to attend City College where she studied the works of famous
African American artists.
On a
trip to Holland Faith Ringgold was introduced to Tankas – Tibetan paintings
framed in cloth that date back to the 1400s. These inspired her work for which
she is famous for in her children’s book Tar Beach.
Fifth graders recently took inspiration from Faith and created gorgeous self-portraits using paint d paper, text and collage.
