Cliffannie Forrester may only be 18, but the young artist has already received a huge honor: one of her paintings is now hanging in one of the world's premier art museums, the Metropolitan Museum of Art! After her work, titled "Uganda", was unveiled earlier this month, the high school senior summed up her excitement in a tweet that soon went viral: “WHO JUST COMPLETED THEIR LIFE GOAL AT AGE 18? ME.”
Cliffannie’s painting was inspired by a picture she took during a 2014 trip: “I went on a trip to Uganda with my church as part of a missionary trip,” she recalls. “We were going to church and I saw a little girl who was just standing around, admiring everything.” When she got home and showed her art teacher, Maria Jimenez, Jimenez suggested that she turn her picture into a portrait. Her painting was selected from more than 1,200 submissions to be one of the paintings in the Met exhibit P.S. Art 2016: Celebrating the Creative Spirit of New York City Kids.
