Picasso's Animals

This Semester our 5th graders are going to study works by Pablo Picasso to gain an understanding of how c reativity leads to the discovery and expression of new ideas. We will focus on his relationships with animals and their symbolism in his works. Fifth graders will experiment with the process of monoprint and collage and will look to Picasso for inspiration. Above is a photograph of Picasso with his dog Lump. Lump means rascal in German. Picasso made several portraits of Lump. It is said that Picasso had many dogs but Lump was his favorite. Pablo Picasso what quite the animal lover. He owned many pets during his lifetime including cats, dogs, birds and even a goat named Esmerelda. Students are creating parodies of well known works of art paired with cartoons or famous figures from pop culture. It's extremely challenging to identify artistically gifted kids. ... The most remarkable work on artistically gifted children has been done by Gaitskell and Lowenfeld. Both of these educators did many long term case studies. They agreed on the following characteristics that may identify children as being artistically gifted: 1. Artistically gifted children show fluency of imagination and expression. These children can’t get their ideas down fast enough. They don’t need stimulation. One idea leads to another. 2. They might have a highly developed sensibility in certain areas.
