I've always wanted to make masks with my 3rd grade kids using plaster and a mold. This project took 4 one hour classes and the wait was worth it!
Every year students study Greece and it's impact on life today.
For this lesson we focused on the 3 types of Greek Theater. I made an imovie going over a very brief history of theater in Ancient Greece. Students created a basic mask on a mask mold using plaster strips. On day two students built feature to create either a mask for a comedy or a tragedy.
On day three students covered their features with a final layer of plaster strips and the final day students painted their masks metallic colors.
